A small independent agency with nothing on its books but knowledge. It owns no room, no vehicle and no seat. What it has is one week run many times over, and thirty documented ways of pulling it apart.

This office is an independent travel agency. It is not a tour operator, an airline, a hotel or a booking site, it takes no payment and holds no card details, and it gives no advice on entry documents or insurance.

Everything in this book is the house shape with a part taken out, and the page for each one says which part before it says anything else.

Most agencies start from a destination and work backwards. This one starts from a shape and works outwards. The reason is practical rather than philosophical: an office that has arranged the same eight nights two hundred times knows what goes wrong on the fourth day, and an office that has arranged two hundred different weeks once each does not.

The office holds no rooms, no cars and no seats of its own, and the company running the week you choose is named to you in writing before you commit.

The work, and the limits of it

Not a cent moves through here. The supplier bills you under its own name, and what this office earns reaches it from that supplier weeks later.

Nothing on this page holds anything. A week is held when the supplier writes to you and you write back, and not one moment before that.
